What is Chaney?

Chaney is the name given to the porcelain shards found in the soil and washed up on the beaches of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. A hybrid of the words for “china” and “money”, chaney refers to fragments of European ceramics brought to St. Croix by the island’s former colonisers: England, France, the Netherlands, and Denmark. You can read more about it HERE

All of Oceanique Creations pieces are made from genuine St. Croix sea glass and chaney jewelry. No two pieces are alike in shape or color, so you can be sure no one will have the same piece.

Always keep in mind that you now own a piece of sea glass jewelry, handle with care, it's glass after all! Do not wear your jewelry while swimming, showering, hiking, playing sports, sleeping, etc. When not in use, please keep your jewelry in a protective case or jewelry box. Some metals used (such as copper or sterling silver) may oxidize over time. You can use jewelry cleaning cloths to clean your jewelry, although this may remove the patina on some pieces if cleaned too often or too much at one time.

NOTE: We try to represent colors as accurately as possible in our photographs, but please be aware that colors may vary on screen monitors depending on different calibrations.
